Administrative Building of ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tamenglong District, Manipur Inaugurated by Honorable DG ICAR.

Dr. T. Mohapatra, Director General, ICAR and Secretary DARE, arrived at Imphal, Manipur on 29-05-2017 to conduct the 23rd Regional Committee Meeting of the ICAR. The Regional Committee Meeting is being conducted at Imphal after a span 36 years. Dr. T. Mohapatra on arrival at Imphal left for Tamenglong accompanied by Dr. A. K. Singh, DDG Agril. Extension, ICAR; Dr. J. K. Jena, DDG Fisheries & I/C Animal Science and Dr. Algasundaram, DDG Agril. Engineering & I/C DDG Natural Resource Management (NRM). Dr. T. Mahopatra inaugurated the Administrative Building of ICAR –Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tamenglong District, Manipur and dedicated the same for serving the farmers of the district. He stated that the KVK, Tamenglong was an important institution to catch to the requirements of the farmers in this region, in improving their lives and in ensuring security in livelihood. He also stated that the KVK, Tamenglong would be earmarked for training of 2000 farmers every year in various vocations and would ensure that the benefits of technology reached them. He stressed on developing horticultural practices in the region, improving value addition and meeting the target of doubling farmers’ income in the next five years i.e. by 2022. It is envisaged that setting up and an operationalisation of KVK, Tamenglong would be a strategic developmental step to ensure overall agricultural development of the region. The 23rd Regional Committee Meeting is scheduled to be held at Imphal on May 30th and 31st, 2017 at the City Convention Centre and would address various issues of agricultural development and progress in the north eastern context. Deliberations during the meeting are expected to help in development of strategic plan to ensure food and nutritional security and also embark on planning and an evergreen revolution emanating from the north eastern region of India.
